(US) Directorial debut of Roman Coppola, Francis Ford Coppola's son, produced by Francis Ford Coppola's production company for United Artists. Cast: Depardieu, Jeremy Davies (Saving Private Ryan, Spanking the Monkey), Angela Lindvall, Giancarlo Giannini, Dean Stockwell, Billy Zane
Plot: (from United Artists) Paris, 1969. The filming of a sci-fi movie set in the distant year 2000 is in trouble. The director's obsession with the actress who plays the sexy secret agent Dragonfly (Angela Lindvall) has clouded his judgment and the film has no ending. A young American (Jeremy Davies), in Paris to document his life on film with total honesty, is brought in to finish the movie. This proves to be difficult when the line between his fantasy life and reality becomes blurred, and he finds himself seduced by the charms of Dragonfly.
Depardieu's character, Andrezej, is a "crazy photographer who presses the button on his camera continuously." (source, German article linked below)
Production Info: Production took place in the Fall of 2000 on location in Paris, Rome and Luxembourg.
CQ at Cannes '01: The film showed at Cannes where Variety reports the response to it was "a wash". Release date has slipped to 2002.
