(France) Sequel to 1999's Astérix & Obélix Vs. Caesar. The original earned $98 million without ever being released in the US. Directed by Alain Chabat. Cast: Gérard Depardieu, Christian Clavier, Monica Bellucci (Malèna, Le pacte des loups), Alain Chabat
Plot: Cleopatra (Bellucci) makes a bet with Caesar (Chabat) that she can build a palace in three months. Our Gallic superheroes (Clavier as Astérix and Depardieu as Obélix) travel to Egypt to help her architect and encounter opposition from the Roman legions and a rival architect. The Astérix and Obélix movies are based on an extremely popular French comic book. Astérix and Obélix are French Gauls of the Roman era. Their tribe's wizard makes a magic potion which gives them superhuman strength. Obélix is always strong because he was accidentally immersed in the potion as a baby. Although a family film, this is also a general audience comedy/adventure on par with something like Grinch.
Production Info: Was shot in Malta and Morocco in the Fall of 2000. No word on release dates yet.
