(The Actors) (France) Directed by Bertrand Blier (Menage, Too Beautiful for You, Going Places). Cast: Pierre Arditi, Jean-Pierre Becker, Josiane Balasko, Marie-Christine Adam and a whole slew of famous French actors such as Jean-Paul Belmondo and Gérard Depardieu.
Plot: Bertrand Blier is a legendary French film 'auteur' -- the kind of director that writes and directs his own material. Blier films are typically violent, always misogynistic, and usually quite powerful. This film was done after a four year hiatus and featured a wide range of French legends playing themselves. The story is about a group of actors and their pathos. While it is billed as a comedy, the reviews indicate that it is often a bit too accurate to be really funny. The actors often discuss their real-life careers, failings, even personal lives in a way that borders on self-parody. For example in the film Depardieu has an accident on his motorcycle while drunk. This film is Blier's "declaration of love to actors" and has an obvious appeal to those truly into French cinema.
