(Guardian Angels) (France) Directed by Jean-Marie Poiré (Les visiteurs) Cast: Gérard Depardieu, Christian Clavier, Eva Grimaldi, Eva Herzigova
Plot: (from boxoff.com) Depardieu plays a sleazy Paris nightclub owner and ex-detective who flies to Hong Kong to rescue the young son of a friend murdered by the Chinese mob. He leaves the boy in the hands of an earnest priest (Christian Clavier), who escorts him back to Paris. Soon Clavier and Depardieu are fighting it out, each shadowed by his good or evil guardian angel (played again, by Clavier and Depardieu).
Trivia: Depardieu is a veritable comedy team with Clavier. Together they've done two Astérix and Obélix movies as well as the more serious Les Misérables and the upcoming Napolean.
Critical Consensus: The French hit comedy Les visiteurs led to its director (Poiré) and ones of its stars (Clavier) teaming up with France's biggest name (Depardieu). Predictably, the result was a box office hit in France. By all accounts this is fluffy fare that entertains -- particularly if you like goofiness and high-tech special effects. Lots of action sequences and exotic locales.
