(France)  Directed by Gérard Lauzier (Le plus beau métier du monde, Astérix and Obélix versus Caesar)

Plot:  In 1991 this French comedy debuted about a father and his teenaged daughter's bizarre vacation at a tropical resort.  She tells everyone he's her lover in order to impress them; he goes along in order to gain her love.  It was well enough received to catch the eye of Disney, which did an American remake in 1994 (as My Father the Hero).  The screenplay is nearly identical, and both films have the same star, Depardieu.  The part of Andre's daughter is played by the young French actress Marie Gillain in this original version.

US/UK Status:  This French comedy is generally unavailable in the US, probably due to the remake in English in 1994.   You can get it from Francevision.com (see link below) but it doesn't have subtitles.  In the UK, this film with English subtitles is available and is probably to be recommended over the American version.
