(US) Written and directed by Peter Weir (The Truman Show, Picnic at Hanging Rock) Cast: Gérard Depardieu, Andie MacDowell, Bebe Neuwirth
Plot: Bronte (MacDowell) is a prim, single horticulturalist who wants to move into a apartment with a greenhouse -- but the apartment is for couples only. Georges is a Frenchman in search of a green card. Their marriage is arranged by a mutual friend. They intend to never see each other again. But when the INS comes sniffing around, on the look out for phony marriages, they're forced to move in together and try to "cram" a marriage's worth of intimate details and memories over a weekend. They're an ill-matched pair: she's a staid environmentalist and vegetarian, he grew up on the streets and likes meat, wine and cigarettes. But by the time the weekend's over their marriage might just be for real.
