(Drôle d'endroit pour une recontre) (French) Directed by François Dupeyron (La Machine)
Cast: Catherine Deneuve, Gérard Depardieu
Plot: On a cold winter's night, a car stops at a freeway rest stop. The driver, Vincent, and his wife, France (Deneuve), are having an argument. He throws her out of the car and takes off. Another man, Charles (Depardieu), is at the rest stop having trouble with his car. A private type, he's at first annoyed to have a woman around so he tries to convince her to take off. But certain her husband will return for her, France stays. Little by little, Charles becomes attached to this woman, so sophisticated and beautiful but seemingly as lost as he is, while France is touched by this boorish, solitary man. A very quiet and tragic little drama, superbly acted.
Awards: 1989 César nominations (French Academy Awards) for Best Actress (Deneuve) and Best New Director (Dupeyron)
