Rue du départ (1986)
Last update 3/30/01

(France)  Written and directed by Tony Gatlif (Gadjo Dilo)

Cast:   François Cluzet, Jean-Pierre Bacri, Ann-Gisel Glass, Christine Boisson, Gérard Depardieu

Plot:  (translated from cinedestin)  After leaving jail, Paul (Cluzet) returns to the harbor. It is there that he once lived and also there that his father died.  Before leaving to try his luck elsewhere, Paul wants revenge. On his way, he meets Clara (Glass). She also needs a new place to live. She just ran away from her father, a comfortable physician who doesn't understand her. And she thinks that by penetrating the squalid and illegal districts, everything is going to be different. In these zones where strange outcasts live, Paul finds an old acquaintance, Cedonazzi. He is rich and lonely. But it is Cedonazzi that used the trucks of Paul's father to deal drugs. It is because of him that Paul went to jail and that his father killed himself.

Depardieu:  Plays Clara's father.
