(Je hais les acteurs) (France) Directed by Gérard Krawczyk
Cast: Jean Poiret, Michel Blanc, Bernard Blier, Michel Galabru, Claude Chabrol Plot: (translated from cinedestin) Sunset Boulevard in the age of the film empires, 1942. A film is being made, "Son of Destiny", a banal sword-and-sandals picture. Yet, during the filming, three actors will be murdered. The police suspect Orlando, the agent of the victims. The producer, J.B. Cobb, worried about finishing the picture, turns to his screenwriter/detective novelist who constructs a variety of theories. Their number one suspect is Elvina, a pinup girl that Orlando represents. The producer, Hercules Potnik doesn't have a motive -- why would he want to ruin his own pictures? -- but his nasty temper makes him suspect anyway. Their third suspect, Lawrence Bison, has a reason to have murdered one of the victims. Depardieu has a cameo role. Critical Opinion: (Maltin Summery) Cute, slight little satire on Hollywood, with a series of murders comically disrupting the filming of a costume epic; agent Jean Poiret is the prime suspect. Based on a novel by Ben Hecht and filmed mostly in beautiful black-and-white; set in Tinseltown, yet all of the dialogue's in French. Look very carefully for Gérard Depardieu; also with Michel Blanc, Bernard Blier, Claude Chabrol.
US/UK Status: Not available in the US or UK. This film is not in print in France but you can find used copies on French auction sites.
