(The Fugitives) (France) Directed by Francis Veber (Les Compères, Le Chèvre, Le Plaçard)
Cast: Gérard Depardieu, Pierre Richards, Jean Carmet, Anaïs Bret
Plot: Jean Lucas (Depardieu) is a bank robber just released from prison. He's determined to go straight and live a decent life. But one day he goes to the bank and the bank is held up -- by a very incompetent bank robber, Pignon (Richards). Pignon is only robbing the bank because he's out of work and needs to support his young daughter. Pignon takes Lucas hostage and on the lam. Of course, the police believe Lucas is the mastermind. Lucas develops a sweet relationship with the bank robber and his daughter.
Trivia: This French film was the last of a trio of Veber-directed, Depardieu/Richards comedies (the first two being Le Chèvre and Les Compères). It was remade in the US as Three Fugitives with Nick Nolte in Depardieu's role and Martin Short in Pierre Richards' role.
US/UK Status: Not available for sale in the US or UK. In the US you can rent the video from francevision.com but it doesn't have subtitles.
